Students who want to register courses taught in Spanish, and whose mother language is not Spanish, must have an Advanced level of Spanish (B1 MCER / CEFR). A Spanish Placement Test will be provided before the selection of courses.

Students who want to register courses taught in English, and whose mother language is not English, must have an Advance level of English (B1 or equivalent). Proof of Language Proficiency will be required before the selection of courses. For more information check our list of authorized proof of English language proficiency.

The minimum passing grade is 70/100.

1 Tec credit is approximately equivalent to 1.67 ECTS / 1 US credit.

Each course provides different amounts of credits. Classes can vary from 1 to 4 credits.

We do not recommend arriving after the start of classes as there is regular homework and assignments, causing you to lose points for your final grade. It could cost you to fail your courses.

Attendance to courses is mandatory.

The evaluation of the courses is comprehensive, so recurring absences from classes can have an impact on the student's final grade, with the risk of failing the course.

The immigration process is determined by the nationality of the students, as well as the duration of their exchange.

Considerations by nationality

  • Non-restricted nationalities: Require an FMM (migratory form obtained upon entry to the country), and do not need a student visa if the stay is for 180 days or less (semester or summer terms).
  •  Restricted nationalities: Require a visa that must be issued at any Mexican consulate or embassy, regardless of the time of stay. To review the list of restricted nationalities, visit: Instituto Nacional de Migración.

Considerations by duration of the exchange

If your stay in Mexico will be longer than 180 days or your nationality is considered restricted, you require a student visa issued by a Mexican consulate or embassy.

Anyone coming to Mexico for less than 180 days, we highly recommend bringing at their arrival:

  • Tec de Monterrey admission letter
  • Proof of residence address in Mexico (if you don't have a final place to stay yet, it can be the address of the hotel/hostal you'll be staying during the first days)
  • Bank account statement
  • Return plane ticket.

If your stay in Mexico will be longer than 180 days or your nationality is considered restricted, you will need a student visa.

At Tec de Monterrey you can study from regular university courses taught in Spanish or English to internships and research projects. We also offer classes designed especially for international students such as Spanish as a Second Language, Mexican Culture, and Business in Mexico.

Yes, you can apply as an independent student. Independent students are those students who apply from universities that do not have an exchange agreement with Tec de Monterrey.

Students who apply as independent students must pay their tuition directly to Tec de Monterrey.

To apply, please request the link to the Application for Admission to studyinmexico@itesm.mx.

A credit at the Tec costs approximately $8,100MXN or $385USD. Each course provides a different number of credits. The full academic load during semester periods is 18 credits.

The living cost can vary depending on the campus of your choice, as well as your needs and lifestyle. In a semester period, the budget can vary from $36,000MXN to $43,300 / $1,660USD to $2,025USD, including in this: food, personal expenses, and payment of health medical insurance (not including lodging).

We have three accommodation options:

  • Accommodation in university residences
  • Accommodation with a host family
  • Independent accommodation (Apartments, rooms or houses near campus).

For more information about the accommodation options, as well as the campuses that have them, you can check the housing section.

Each campus can provide you with information on how to apply to the housing options they have or suggest independent housing options to each student. Contact the advisor of your campus of choice for more information.

The cost of renting apartments may vary depending on the campus of your choice, if you are looking to share an apartment, etc. In a semester period, the budget can vary from $20,000MXN to $50,000MXN / $950USD to $2,380USD to cover the stay.
